MORE INFORMATION ON THE FIRST 20 YEARS OF THE MEDICAL CANNABIS MOVEMENT (1976-1996)
HISTORIC NEWS CLIPPINGS
From the very first news clipping in April 1976 until the mid-1990s, Alice and Robert collected and catalogued newspaper clippings from around the nation and the world. They reveal the evolution of an issue that began when most Americans had no idea that marijuana had medical utility. Robert’s mastery of mass communication slowly re-awakened the nation to the wondrous medical applications of cannabis.

LEGAL and LEGISLATIVE
It all began with an arrest in August 1975 in Washington, DC. But before it was over Robert C. Randall made legal history, helped pass the nation’s first marijuana-as-medicine state law in 1978, introduced the first federal legislation to legalize the medical use of cannabis, and convinced the chief administrative law judge of the DEA that cannabis should be rescheduled.
BROADCAST NEWS FROM THE 1990s
The medical cannabis issue hit its zenith in the 1990s and became a nearly constant source of news reporting on TV. Robert collected these news clips from other patients throughout the country and compiled annual tapes which are available at Alice’s YouTube channel.

Alice’s Medical Cannabis Advocacy
1976-2001
Most of my adult life has been spent as a medical cannabis advocate. My late husband and I founded the medical marijuana movement in 1976 and until his death in 2001 we worked to remove the medical marijuana prohibition. Enter here for a summary.
2001-2012
After my husband’s death I took a sabbatical from medical cannabis. During that time I got my nursing license and eventually became a hospice nurse. I retired in 2012 and returned to the medical cannabis issue. I also began compiling our archives which are housed at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Marys Pubs
From 2014 to 2020 it was my great pleasure to work with Mary’s Medicinals of Denver, Colorado in promoting quality medical cannabis products coupled with aggressive patient education. It was a dream come true. Among my work with Mary’s was the Mary’s Prime Time Blog which you can see here.
